December 21 was the winter solstice (the shortest day of the year). The sun rose at 10:12 and set at 3:53. Thank goodness the days are getting longer! They are noticeably getting longer now. It is very hard for me to wake up when it is still dark out! I am not a fan of cross-country skiing or snowshoeing so I've been hibernating this winter. I do make an effort to go to the gym four or five times a week, but other than that I'm perfectly happy to stay warm and inside.
The trees are so beautifully covered in snow. The mountain range is also breathtaking against the blue and pinkish sky too. I have seen several moose this winter. It is too cold for them out in the wilderness, so they come into "town" to seek shelter from the wind and look for food. I know they are wild animals, but I desperately want to wake up one morning to find one in my yard! My friend has a moose that hangs out around her apartment building, but no such luck for me. I usually only see the moose when I'm driving and it is dark.
I'm going to commit to posting a new blog at least once a week! I hope everyone's new year is off to a great start.
